The EOD IS-Survey Tool was introduced to a group of mine action personnel in Albania on 10-21 May 2004. The first week consisted of classroom training and field exercises in and around AMAE (Albania Mine Action Executive) headquarters in Tirana. Participants included five personnel from AMAE and one from Danish Church Aid. The trainers were Stefan Kallin and Jean-Paul Rychener and training was done in English with portions translated into Albanian.

During the second week, field exercises took place at several sites on and near the Albanian border with Kosovo – these were accessed by coming from the Kosovo side of the border. Terrain was steep and hilly and the vegetation varied from dense regrowth deciduous woodland to open shrub and grassland. The soils were thin and rocky. The temperature was warm to seasonally cool, and most days were partly cloudy with some days of rain and fog.

Evaluation forms were filled and written field observations were collected. Interviews were conducted with four of the participants. Unfortunately, the survey tool was not put into use in Albania following the training period and therefore no additional information was collected regarding its functionality in "real-world" conditions.
