KU team was given the responsibility of evaluating the handheld survey tool.
Specific objectives were (1) to test the hardware and software configurations
for “bugs” – errors or omissions that might lead to breakdowns
or, even worse, inaccurate results; (2) to test the impact of the physical
environment on the functioning of the survey tool; and (3) to examine the
interaction of cultural settings, including language, education levels,
and other local factors, with the successful fielding of the system.
Move your cursor over each item in the diagram below
to learn how that item is used.
Four international sites were chosen for test deployments
of the survey tool largely because they offered a diverse range of environmental
and cultural factors within which to evaluate the system. The country
links below provide details of the evaluations performed in each of the
test countires.
The final Handheld Report can be accessed here
(100.5 mb).

location, the software calculates the longitude and latitude of
the observed point. |
