Bio:Tanera Marshall has been a working actor, teacher, and voice coach in Chicago since 1995, when she graduated with an MFA in Performance from DePaul University's Theater School. She is the grantwriter, resident vocal coach, and a performer with GreasyJoan & Co., whose work focuses on innovative presentations of classical works-from world-premiere adaptations of Pericles and of Macchiavelli's The Mandrake (including an original score) to US premieres of new adaptations, such as Pam Gems' The Lady From the Sea by Henrik Ibsen. Acting credits include TV, film, and V/O as well as the Illinois Shakespeare Festival (Hamlet, Cyrano, Two Gentlemen of Verona), the Festival de la Rue in Switzerland, and works with Chicago's Court, Redmoon, and Organic Touchstone theaters. She is Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and works as a vocal coach for numerous Chicago theaters as well. As a Teaching Artist and Arts Integration Consultant with LEAP/Arts at the Center (Chicago Teachers Center) since 1995, Tanera has co-taught close to 40 integrated units at 20 Chicago and Elgin public schools, and has led numerous professional development workshops for teachers and artists both in the U.S. and abroad.
