Scotland Ten - Text
An excellent example of a young white female, early twenties, from Glasgow. Recorded by Micha Espinosa, 2002. Notice the rising intonation at the ends of some sentences and the quality of the vowel in "you", "food" etc. Note the very rounded quality to the vowel in "home", "goat". Note the use of the tapped and trilled 'r'. Running time: 00:04:42.

I’m from Glasgow in Scotland, (um) for the past four years I’ve been at the University of St Andrews, studying International Affairs and Management. (Um) St Andrews is an amazing place it’s right on the coast (um) really different from any other place I’ve ever been. The community spirit at the university is absolutely lovely (um) you can’t even walk there in the street without meeting somebody and you know and... like go for coffee with you four times in one street. (Um) After I, after graduating I decided I wasn’t very sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life so I decided I would travel for a while and I came to New Zeeland (um) with a group called Beunac [sp?..] Here in New Zeeland I hope to do lots of different things, and do things I wouldn’t normally do back home, such as skydiving, bungee-jumping, yesterday we were kayaking, lots of different things. (Um) After that I go to Australia for hopefully about three months depending on how the money lasts. (Um) And then I head to Hawaii which I’m really looking forward to, just finding some nice beaches and just having some time to relax and do some diving hopefully, which is supposed to be amazing over there. And then I’m going to LA (um) and then from there I hope to do a bit of traveling around the States, go down to San Diego and see friends in San Diego. And then go on and see the Grand Canyon and (um) San Francisco. And hopefully I’ve got time and money enough, I will go up to Vancouver and see my big cousins in Vancouver Island and visit for a while.
