Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the website unviewable on my Macintosh when I use Internet Explorer?
Internet Explorer on the Macintosh does not support our stylesheet version. For proper viewing, please use Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

Where are the transcriptions?
We are constantly working on adding transcriptions, both phonetic and orthographic for the soundfiles. If a particular soundfile has transcription, it may be accessible through a separate link marked, marked "Transcription", or may be part of the basic text file.

When will you be adding dialects from "xx" region?
Our archive is constantly growing, with more samples coming in each week. If you are looking for a specific region that isn't on our website, please let us know! You may consider submitting a sample your self, see the following.

Can I submit recordings myself?
Yes,we are happy to consider any contributed recording, provided it is accompanied by the necessary documents. See Submit a Sample

The samples won't play! What should I do?
Place your cursor over the name of the recording, right-click, and "save as" to your own computer. Then you may open the file in the mp3 player of your choice.

May I make copies of the IDEA files?
For all questions to do with permissions and copyright, please see Copyright and Credit Information
