For this in-class demonstration, you will do two things:

1. Teach the class, nonverbally (i.e., without you speaking), to make musical, choral sound with a brief (30-45 seconds) song excerpt or composition of your choosing. This material might be a camp song, a round, a carol, a melody with ostinato, a chord progression, or any number of other things. It may be harmony, or it may be in unison. Remember, it must be very brief so that you can teach it quickly. As you are teaching it, diagnose/pay attention to the choral sound you are getting from the group.

2. Once the example is learned, lead the class in singing it again. This time you are to change one thing about the sound you are getting from the group. You may not verbalize the change you wish to make. You must communicate it nonverbally.

After viewing your videotape, email Dr. Daugherty with what you judge to be the most important behaviors and behavioral correlations you observed, e.g., "I did this:.....," "The choir did this......." Write "Evoking Choral Sound" as the subject of your email.
