Each student in MEMT 231 will choose a MEMT 331 conductor to be his or her mentor.

Responsibilities of each are as follows:

The MEMT 231 student will choose a short, simple piece to conduct. The piece may be a folksong, carol, hymn (in which case you bring sufficient copies for the class to sing from), or a very easy piece from the choral library. You will have no more than four minutes to: (a) conduct the class through the piece the first time; and (b) conduct the piece a second time, this time changing some aspect of the choral sound of the group (phrasing, blend, dynamics, tempo, vowels, consonants, etc.).

The MEMT 231 student will schedule a mutually convenient time to meet with her or his MEMT 330 mentor for coaching and suggestions. Before meeting with the mentor, the MEMT 230 student will have chosen his or her piece and have an idea of what is to be done with it.

The MEMT 331 student will mentor/coach the MEMT 231 student both prior to the day of the in-class conducting appearance and on that day, working with the MEMT 231 student in front of the class immediately following his or her conducting.
