Become An Associate Editor

As you will see on our Associate Editors page, IDEA is the work of many collaborators, working without compensation, simply for the reward of the work itself and for the publishing credit it brings.

Professionals in voice, speech, dialects, linguistics, and allied disciplines serve as the authorities on the dialects in the areas they represent, and collect the samples that form the archive. Many are available for consultancy and coaching.

A spreadsheet showing what countries/states/provinces are represented in the archive (and those still lacking a representative sample) is available. We call it our Wish List.

Associate Editors gather speech samples to document the dialects spoken in their geographical area. They select the speakers, record them, analyze and describe the samples, and transcribe the subjects' speech, sometime phonetically, but more often, simply orthographically. The editors' biographies, photographs, contact details, and a complete record of their contributions are posted on the Associate Editors page.

If you would like to join us in this exciting research and publishing activity, please send us an email attaching your résumé.
