France Eight - Text

Although she has spent all of her life in Paris, France, this subject's father is originally from Poland, and her mother from Algeria. She is a 22 year old college student (La Sorbonne), spending a year as the French foreign language assistant at Western Maryland College. Very noticeable in her dialect are the dropped "h" sounds in "happy" ("appy"), "herself" ("erself"), "hurry" ("urry"), etc. Voiceless "th" usually transforms to "s"("with" becomes "wis"), and the voiced "th" becomes "z"("this" becomes "zis"). Recorded by Elizabeth van den Berg in December, 2000. Edited by Paul Meier 01/03/01
