The subject was born in Bologna, Italy. He is a college professor at Cal State Fullerton teaching history. He was born in Italy, moved when he was 6 to Chicago, then back to Italy, to Greece, and finally to California. He learned English while he was in school in Italy. In the interview he talks about perception of certain right wing groups in America.

The fact is that I think that its important to think about who these people are beyond a... a simple stereotype, to reduce them to one dimension eh... a lot of people who eh... define themselves in opposition to these things easily reduce what there opposed to to one dimension and see it as a sign of a negative or just hate, and that’s a part of the story but eh... eh... there also forced to recognize that eh.. all of these groups that you can define outside of yourself as your opposite eh... they can become the object of hatred and fear, they're more complex than that, its important to see these eh... right wing people, Christian fundamentalists et cetera et cetera. As a more complex reality than what they appear to be, cause you run the risk or replicating exactly there eh... thought process which is to reduce everybody else to one dimension as a external objects, object of fear, object of hate. the problem with eh… the ideology this right wing world is exactly its capacity to reduce things to a simply dimension I think, and so to... it's important to not replicate that but to eh... see these people as human being which is always more complex
