TRANSCRIPTION OF UNSCRIPTED SPEECH
I’m born in the south of the Netherlands in a city called Tilburg. It’s quite a little city compared to other countries, I guess, even Amsterdam is quite a small city, and is a capital. I thought I should tell a little story from when I was two or three years old. I don’t actually recall this myself but I have vivid images of it through the stories my parents told us about it. Apparently when my brother and I were, I was about three and he was about five, we watched this winter Olympics on the TV, and we saw skiing, and we got very excited, and then our parents promised us that soon they would take us skiing. Then a few weeks later, we were awake on a Sunday morning, and my parents were still fast asleep, and we thought it was about time, that soon [snow] had arrived, so what we did was we went into our basement, and we grabbed all the butter we could find, and we pasted it on the floor and we were sliding across the room. We had the best of time, and then we went up to my parents’ bedroom, all excitedly, to announce that ‘we were skiing’. So of course my father wasn’t very happy, but my mother burst out in laughter, but they spent three hours trying to get the butter off our body and out of our hair.
