Iran Three - Text
Subject was born in Tehran, Iran and came to the US when she was 19 or 20. She first went to school in California, but left to attend college so that she could become an engineer and move back home to work in the factory. But when the Revolution happened, her family told her to stay in the US, so she did. She met and married her husband in 1982 and they now have three boys. She enjoys movies a great deal, having seen many films translated while in Iran (The Sound of Music, Rocky, etc.) and many more when she came to the US. She is currently a secretary in a Kansas school system and enjoys it a lot, as it allows her to have time for her family, which has always been important to her. In her accent it is hard to firmly pin down any signature sounds. She sometimes changes 'kit' vowels to 'fleece' vowels; her 'w' to 'v'; she rarely aspirates her voiceless plosives. And before many words beginning with "s", she adds a shwa (as in "United uh-States"). The most notable change is her grammar, as she uses improper tenses and few pronouns.Interviewed by Theresa Bucheister and edited by Paul Meier 12.01.02. Running time 00:05:30.
