"Cursing and Travelling". Subject, a Caucasian female, was 54 when recorded by Andrew Travis on 11/26/2000. Subject was born and raised in Omaha Nebraska. She has also lived in NY and CO. She has had considerable singing training. Note the strong R coloring on words like "square" "her" "mirror". She seems to be careful with the reading - note the overuse of released t's. The vowel in bath and trap are the same - though TRAP followed by a nasal, in words like "and" and "goddamn" has the typical midwest nasal onglide. I have lots of really memories of growing up and of going on family vacations. (Um) There are many stories that I can tell. (Um) I s-- One of my favorite stories is (um)-- My dad had (um)-- an’ still does-- has a habit of ‘damn’ an’ ‘shit’ an’ ‘hell’ an’ those kinds of things kind of easily flowing out of his mouth. An’ little sister, who is now raising her own child of about the same age-- (Um) When Julie was, oh, prob’ly about two or three years old, (um) we all had our own suitcases, our own kind of bags to fill before the trip, with clothes. An’ my mom would lay out everything she wanted us to pack. We’d pack ’em, take ’em down to dad. He’d get ’em in the trailer an’ off we’d go. This particular time, Julie had a little pink suitcase, on the bottom. An’ the top flap that came down had a picture of-- I don’t know, some farm animals or somethin’. It was very bright….
