Brazil Two - Text

The subject is a 21 year old male from Brasilia, Brasil. He is currently attending Hutchinson community college and majoring in an unspecified field. The subject has been in full resisdence in the United States for 2 years, and was visiting as an exchange student in high school. He is an avid soccer fan and player, and returns to Brasil once or twice a year.

TRANSCRIPTION OF UNSCRIPTED SPEECH 
I was born in Brasilia, Brazil.  (Um) I am 21 years old.  I love soccer.  My girlfriends call me a monkey.  I am a college student in Hutchinson, Kansas.  I made a bunch of friends in America.  I’m really enjoying my staying here.  First time I came to America, I was an exchange student, an’ (uh) I didn’ know any word in English at all.  I didn’ know anything, an’ I was hilarious ’cause I would look at people, and they’d keep talking, look like cartoons.  ’Cause I couldn’-- I-- I-- you jus’ can get-- Like in my language you do a lotta gesture, and (uh) here you don’t do as many, so… It jus’ sounds like… a cartoon thing that you can’t understand.  So, I started learning-- I think for two months after I was here, with no contact with Portuguese, I started to, you know, put things in my head, an’ put things together, then….  [recites in Portuguese]
