Since December 30th, 2000, a chart with the stratigraphic distribution of the Cenozoic Dasycladalean algae can be downloaded in the form of a 'pdf' file (47KB) from the IFAA Library.

Since December 27th, you are invited to answer a few questions (3) at our poll page, e.g. «Which is your favorite algal group?». That is quick and easy: you just enter a few answers and you will get instant results. In addition you will have the possibility to add comments after viewing the poll results!

On December 14th, Sigrid Berger sent us 12 pictures of modern Dasycladales; they form now a part of the IFAA photo gallery.

On December 10th, the list of recent publications (1995 to 2000) dealing with calcareous algae (and bacteria) has been updated!

Since December 9th, the volume with Program and Abstracts of the 1st International Symposium on Fossil Algae, Erlangen (1975), can be downloaded in the form of a 'pdf' file (446KB) from the IFAA Library. We will try to release the remaining volumes (abstracts, field trips) of the other meetings too.

At December 8th, there was a total of 83 subscribers to the CALCALGA list!

Since November 28th, B. Granier's paper on the Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous calcareous green algae from Alicante, first published in Mediterranea (1988), can be downloaded in the form of 3 'pdf' files (a total of 2,776KB) from the IFAA Library.
According to Mary C. Dale's latest report, there are very few remaining copies of publications by J. Harlan Johnson at the Colorado School of Mines.

November 3rd marked the time for some significant improvements on the site. Let us discover them through the new side bar:
- "The Library" were you will find E-Books / E-Papers to be downloaded in the form of 'pdf' files;
- "The Gallery" were you will find your favorite algae pictured;
- "The Archives" will mainly deal with information on palaeontological collections as well as on reprints of papers.
E-Papers and Gallery derived from the E.P. Munier-Chalmas 1877 and 1879 contributions to the study of the calcareous green algae were loaded at that time.

On October 24th, Françoise Gasquez sent us 3 pictures of Coniporella micromera (de SAPORTA) from the J. Thierry's Collection; these pictures are part of an online database called TRANS'TYFIPAL®
On June 25th, that was Steven T. LoDuca who inaugurated herein the first "Fossil Algae" photo gallery with 9 pictures of ancestral (Ordovician and Silurian) Dasycladales.
We welcome such initiatives! We also hope that other colleagues will follow their example so that we will have more pictures to share with you in a coming future.

Since October 24th, the volume with Program and Abstracts of the 4th International Symposium on Fossil Algae, Cardiff (1987), can be downloaded in the form of a 'pdf' file (89KB) from the IFAA Library. It was first electronically published about one month earlier, on September 11th.
Still from the IFAA Library, there is the list of references on Cretaceous to Pleistocene coralline red algae (more than 200) prepared by Julio Aguirre and Juan Carlos Braga. It is planed that the preliminary list (version 01_01) which was launched on June 15th will be regularly updated.

The 3rd International Symposium on « Extant and Fossil Charophytes » was held in Nanjing, People's Republic of China (October 16th-20th), under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the International Research Group on Charophytes.

On September 30th, the PETRALGA site - an "affiliate" site - was selected as Site of the Day on .

On June 27th, Juan Carlos Braga and Bruno Granier launched CALCALGA. This list deals with any aspect of the biology and palaeobiology of the diverse groups of algae and cyanobacteria that produce calcium carbonate as a result of their activity. Special thanks are due to Miguel V. Pardo and to Paleópolis ("Comunidad Virtual de Paleontología") for their support and technical collaboration; we also wish to express our appreciation to RedIRIS ("Red Nacional de I+D - National Research Network") and to Jesus Sanz de las Heras for the facilities they gave us.
At September 28th, the CALCALGA list reached a total of 65 subscribers!

On June 2nd, we started bringing some pages dealing with information on palaeontological collections as well as on reprints of papers; they are presently lumped together under the "Archives" section.
Do you have any new publication (years 1995-2000) dealing with fossil algae? Get listed! Do you know any new and relevant publication? Please do not hesitate to add it to our listing!

Since the very beginning the site includes links to sites of related interests which should give you more detailed information on some particular topics or groups. Though we are dealing with fossils, links to cell biologists and phycologists have become a necessity during the last decades.

Finally amongst many items there are the traditional guestbook and the listing.

Do you have any comments, doubts, questions, remarks, suggestions, etc.? Do you want to give us some feedback? Then feel free to sign our "Guestbook"!
