Internet Explorer 5 gets a new feature which recognizes an icon associated with a website. An icon distinct from the IE icon might be associated with a web page URL in the "Favorites" folder if bookmarked, as well as on the Address Bar and on the Status Bar when the pages are viewed: the icon should appear at the left end of the URL instead of the IE icon.

How to join? You must first contact the webmaster for the IFAA site, CALCALGA, ... or any other affiliate sites. Then you should be fully entitled to associate the affiliation icon with your web page.

How to do it? The technique is relatively simple [more information at the James S. Huggins' Refrigerator Door]. An *.ico file named favicon.ico must be uploaded in the root directory of the page you would like to be labelled. For example, http://www.mydomain.com/favicon.ico.

You can also associate the icon [recommended] with your web page by adding a line of HTML code in the head section of your web document. The line of code includes a link tag that specifies the location of the file. For example,

<HEAD>
<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON"
          HREF="http://www.mydomain.com/favicon.ico">
</HEAD>

At IFAA, we have prepared a series of five 32x32 pixel file with 256 colors:
• blue for the blue-green algae and microbial structures-related sites,
• green for the green algae and charophytes,
• red for the red algae,
• white for sites covering several groups,
• yellow for the brown and "yellow" algae.
