KS Deaf-Blind Family Information

Kansas Deaf Blind Project

Family Information

The Kansas Deaf-Blind Project is committed to providing family members with supports, training, networking, and technical assistance for their sons and daughters who are registered on the Kansas Deaf-Blind Census.

Parent Consultant Contact Information

The parent consultant for the Kansas Deaf-Blind project is Dinell Stuckey (316-789-0637). She has a child who is deaf-blind. Please feel free to contact her about any of the family activities. She has a wealth of information about the Kansas Project activities, connecting families to resources, and providing family support.

Family Scholarships

Family Scholarships (PDF) are awarded to family members of children who are registered on the Kansas Deaf-Blind Census. Family members can receive up to a $300.00 per family, per fiscal year providing that funding is available. Family scholarships sponsor family members to attend activities that specifically relate to their children's education and training by means of coursework, conferences, state and national training sessions, national and state family meetings, etc. These funds help offset the costs needed to participate in activities. All family scholarships must be pre approved by the Kansas Project Director prior to attending the activity.

Project SPARKLE

Project SPARKLE is a family centered and family directed training program about issues for children who are deaf-blind.

Technical Assistance Requests

Families who have children registered on the Kansas Deaf-Blind Census may request technical assistance throughout the year by completing the Technical Assistance Request Form, and submitting it to the Kansas Project Coordinator. Once it is received, the Kansas Project Coordinator will contact the family member who made the request. Together, they will decide on the type of technical assistance service delivery.

Kansas Forum About Deaf-Blind (KFADB)

KFADB is a parent and professional organization to advocate for support for children with deaf-blindness, and those who live and work with them. One of the ways it does this is by having a listserve to promote communication. Click on the link to download a PDF that explains how to join the listserve.

Kansas Family Needs Assessment

The Kansas Family Needs Assessment Survey is conducted every year by one or both parent consultants. The parent consultants either disseminate the surveys by mail or make individual family contacts by phone.

This survey provides information and guidance to the project about family activities and interests. The Kansas Family Needs Assessment Survey Summaries provide information about the priority needs that Kansas families identified and the type of activities they would like to participate. When the current survey is compiled a link to it will be provided.

The Kansas Deaf-Blind Project Newsletter

The Kansas Deaf-Blind Project Newsletter is published on a quarterly basis to all families who have children registered on the Kansas Deaf-Blind Census and to interested professionals. To sign up to be get the newsletter contact Dinell Stuckey.
