PACA, a non-profit corporation, was founded March 1, 1995 as an educational, scientific and literary association to promote the study, criticism, research, teaching, and application of the artistic, humanistic, and social scientific principles of communication.

The membership is open to persons interested in promoting the Association's purposes. The Association's terrritorial sphere of operation is inclusive of but not exclusive to the area of the Pacific Rim, including the western parts of the Asian continent, and the continents, islands, and land masses in between.

The Association fulfills its purpose through the publication of a semi-annual newsletter, an annual journal Human Communication, an e-journal, a biennial convention, and seminars, workshops, and institutes as deemed appropriate. Annual conventions are held by affiliated associations.

Human Communication carries experimental, theoretical, and speculative articles in the artistic, humanistic, and scientific areas of communication. A blind review process is used with associate editors reading and reviewing each manuscript. Manuscripts must conform to the APA Publication Manual (4th Edition, 1994). An article may be submitted via email attachment in Microsoft Word or PDF, or by regular (air)mail with four copies to the Editor, PACA Journal, Pacific Asian Communication Association, Center for East Asian Studies, 205 Lippincott Hall, The University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, 66044, USA. Each article should be accompanied by a disc of the document, as well as a one-page summary to aid reviewers.
