A Graduate Student Journal at the University of Kansas

Social Thought and Research Consortium

In the past, the Mid-America Review of Sociology--Social Thought and Research's predecessor--had a network of support among both sociology departments in the lower Midwest as well as among departments with faculty that had earned their degrees from either the University of Kansas or from other consortium universities. It is our hope to re-establish this network to enhance our review process as well as the quality of article submissions. We have decided to reach beyond our old networks and to welcome reviewers and consortium universities from throughout the entire Midwest and the entire world.

In the past, consortium members paid fees and selected a member of the department to be an "associate editor" to coordinate journal activity on thier campuses. Only students and faculty at consortium universities were allowed to publish full-length articles in the Mid-America Review of Sociology. We feel that this policy limits the number of quality articles that Social Thought and Research would be able to publish and therefore will not follow this policy for our consortium. What we ask instead is that interested persons in eligible departments support Social Thought and Research by pledging to seek out manuscripts that are appropriate for submission to Social Thought and Researchand providing lists of possible reviewers for articles in their departments.

In exchange for their service, consortium departments will receive recognition on our website, recognition in the journal itself, a complimentary copy of the journal for their department, and (possibly in the near future--for Volume #27) discounted subscription rates for students of departments that are members of the Social Thought and Research consortium. Academic departments in sociology and closely-related disciplines (i.e. the other social sciences, certain humanities, and area-studies departments) are welcome to join our consortium. If you would like to receive more information on making your university a member of the Social Thought and Research Consortium, please contact us through this site, by mail, or e-mail.
