Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I complete the entire Technical
Communication program in just one year?
A: To graduate in a year, here's a suggestion: First enroll in
English 362. Students need to take
English 362 by itself, as it
is the prerequisite for the advanced courses.
Then students who hope to quickly complete the program can take
English 562 and
English 564 concurrently, then
English 563 the semester after that. To assist
in this one-year completion, McKitterick offers
English 563 every semester.
Q: What happens if I complete the Technical
Communication coursework before the certificate is
approved?
A: If you complete all the requirements before the
certificate is officially approved by the University, the program's
director will provide a letter that states you completed the necessary
coursework and you will have your name posted on this site's
Program Graduates page.
Q: Do the courses in the Technical Communication
program count toward my degree?
A: Probably, especially if you are an English or Literature,
Language, and Writing major. The courses in the program will fulfill
two of the writing credits and two electives in the Literature, Language,
and Writing major. Foundations of Technical Writing also fulfills the writing
requirement for Engineering and several other majors. Contact your
advisors for further information, and have them contact McKitterick for
more information. The English undergraduate advisors in Lawrence are
Anna Neill and
Amy Lampe, and the academic advisor
at the Edwards Campus is Dan Mueller.
